Good safety performance is no accident. It is the result of training, awareness, and hard work on the part of all of our team members. Our Mission at Moore’s is to be committed to protecting the company’s greatest asset - our people. We will achieve this goal by creating sound Health and Safety Polices and Procedures which will be supported by continued training and accountability. By committing to these principles we can ensure each of our partners the highest quality of professional life both on and off the jobsite. For Moore’s, safety never takes the day off.
Moore’s takes safety very seriously, and continually trains and promotes safety in all of our divisions. Steve Rogers is our full time Safety Director. He comprehensively reviews all safety guidelines with our customers’ safety representatives, and visits our partners on the job sites. We hold safety classes for all supervisors and managers, as well as, initial safety training for all new team members before they start on the job. Safety talks are held weekly on every field job, and are monitored with written reports. Preventative safety memos are sent out with every paycheck to every employee. We also send out incident statements to our employees in the event of an accident. Plus, employees are rewarded for achieving safety related goals throughout the year.
We are excited to be a member of the “Central District Safety Alliance” which is a new concept and initiative being sponsored by the Central Virginia District of the Association of General Contractors of Virginia (AGC). The purpose of the Alliance is to create a cooperative and focused effort among the membership to support and improve everyone’s safety performance. The goals of the “Safety Alliance” are to Prevent Accidents, establish a “Safety Culture”, provide a resource for training and education, provide hazard awareness through job site audits, and promote a partnership between General Contractors and Subcontractors.

MEDIA RELEASE
Altavista, Virginia - June 22, 2007: Moore’s Electrical & Mechanical Construction, Inc. is proud to announce the achievement of over 1,000,000 man-hours worked without a lost time injury / accident. This marks a significant milestone in the twenty-two year history of our company, and represents an amazing benchmark in the positive change in safety culture within our organization.
"It takes a tremendous effort for any construction company to reach one million safe man-hours," said Steve Rogers, Safety Director for Moore’s Electrical & Mechanical Construction, Inc. “All of our 350 partners throughout Moore’s are to be congratulated for helping to achieve this notable accomplishment, and by working together to make the safety culture a top priority at Moore’s.”
As of Friday, June 15, 2007, Moore’s Electrical & Mechanical Construction, Inc. had reached 1,021,895 man-hours without a lost time accident, with 714,000 of those hours being accrued in 2006. The last lost time accident at Moore’s was nearly two years ago! To help achieve these positive results, Moore’s created a safety program committed to protecting our greatest asset, our people. As part of the Moore’s safety program, we offer comprehensive safety training of newly hired partners, first aid/CPR training, OSHA training, and equipment and job specific safety training. Safety communication is also important through jobsite safety talks, e-mail, our newsletter, safety bulletins, and payroll stuffers. Moore’s also sets yearly goals for safety performance and holds its partners accountable with regular safety inspections of work areas and jobsites. Plus, our partners are rewarded for reaching these goals, and an annual safety banquet is held to celebrate those achievements. Moore’s is also proud to be a member of the Central District Safety Alliance of the AGC, and promotes a safety partnership between general contractors, subcontractors, and customers. These are just a few of the initiatives that are included in our award winning safety program. Safety at Moore’s… it’s the first building block to success.
In addition, Moore’s will be in full compliance with the NFPA70E regulations by the end of July of this year. NFPA70E is an industry wide initiative by the National Fire Protection Association requiring electrical and service contractors to provide training and equipment to ensure safer work practices in the electrical field.
